Garden of Angels

As you've probably noticed from previous blogs, I HAVE A HEART FOR BABIES AND CHILDREN.  I have a passion for them!  But as I have become a mother, my passion goes deeper.  I look at my little girl and cry at the thought of her going through what so many babies and children go through; abandonment.

I keep our local new station as a bookmark on my web browser, and I check it every day.  I constantly see and read articles that break my heart to pure submission and tears.  Most recently, I read an article about a newborn baby abandoned on the side of the road in a cardboard box and covered in ants.  I have chills now even typing this.  My heart is fueled to action, but what can I do?

When I just 10 years old, a friend of mine's mom watched a news report on a baby thrown out of a moving car on a freeway stuffed in a duffel bag.  The baby didn't survive.  She was so fueled by what she saw, she called the police department asking if they would hand over the baby to her family so they could give the baby a proper burial... and so the Garden of Angels was born.

On this past Sunday, we decided to take Josselyn to the Garden of Angels Cemetery to visit the burial site of so many precious babies.  Years ago I had sung at the funeral service of a newborn baby who was found in a dumpster, and since then, the Garden has grown.  It was a quiet moment for the three of us.  Josselyn didn't giggle or scream.  We just read the names of the little ones and prayed that the Garden wouldn't grow any bigger.

I can't even begin to fathom the kind of state any parent could be in if they felt there was no other way.  I'm not here to judge (although I am guilty of judging at so many times), but it breaks my heart.  I am so thankful for Debi Faris for the heart she has and the action she took so long ago!

  2. Oh my. I don't even know what to say. Babies are the purest love of Christ and it completely saddens me to know that people can do things like that. I am hurting just thinking about it. But recognizing the bad makes me love and appreciate children even more.
These things can't be prevented, but I am very glad that a place like this exists for those angels to rest.

  5. That is an amazing story. There are so many ideas that run through my head when I hear about tragedies involving children & here is a wonderful woman who acted on her ideas!! What an inspiration.
    Brought tears to my eyes....
God Bless all those little souls.

  6. You know Jhen, I am sure you have asked the Lord what it is He would have you do with this overwhelming passion He has placed inside of you. I just blogged about my sis who has this same sort of passion and it was something she could not put aside and watch anymore. Their route? They went to Uganda and actually opened and run an orphanage there along with adopting Isaiah from there. They are HUGE advocated of adoption now. Not to say that you need to go to Uganda but it sounds like you have something very special going on inside of you....

  8. Wow that is so amazing what she came up with but also breaks my heart to see all the stones. I don't even understand how my father in law doesn't even speak to his own son and throwing your children out just blows my mind!!
